
Manila files diplomatic protests vs Beijing for violations of PH sovereignty, int’l law
The Philippines filed diplomatic protests against China over 2 developments in the South China Sea that Manila assert as violations of the country’s sovereignty and of international law, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Wednesday.
“At 5:17 pm today the Chinese embassy received 2 diplomatic protests: 1. on the pointing of a radar gun at a Philippine Navy ship in PH waters & 2. declaring parts of Philippine territory as part of Hainan province—both violations of international law & Philippine sovereignty,” Locsin said on Twitter.
‘Iisang Dagat’: Chinese Embassy dedicates song to COVID-19 frontliners in Manila, Beijing

The Chinese Embassy in Manila released on Friday a tribute music video for frontliners in the battle against the coronavirus disease in the Philippines and in China.
The song, titled “Iisang Dagat,” was written by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian. It was sung mostly in Mandarin, with Filipino subtitles, while some parts were in Filipino.

Duterte extends community quarantine in NCR, C. Luzon, Calabarzon, other ‘high-risk’ areas until May 15

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and other “high-risk” areas in Luzon until May 15, 2020.
Duterte’s decision was made Thursday evening and aired on national television Friday morning.
Aside from the three regions, Pangasinan, Benguet, Albay, Catanduanes and the Mindoro provinces will likewise remain under ECQ due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Retired soldier shot dead by police at checkpoint in Quezon City

A police officer shot a retired military for allegedly attempting to pull a gun on the cops at checkpoint in Quezon City.
The victim’s mother, however, claimed her son was suffering from post-traumatic disorder following his tour of duty during the Marawi siege in 2017.
The Quezon City Police District identified the victim as Winston Ragos, 34.
The suspect was identified as Police Master Sergeant Daniel Florendo, Jr. who was assigned with Fairview Police Station 5.
A police report said that at about 2:30 pm of April 21, Florendo and four police trainees from the Highway Patrol Group were manning the checkpoint along Maligaya Drive in Brgy. Pasong Putik, when Ragos approached the policemen and started shouting and intimidating them.

Ragos given military honors by Philippine Army at Libingan ng mga Bayani

Retired Corporal Winston Ragos, the man who was shot by a policeman in Quezon City on April 21, was given military honors by the Philippine Army on Saturday at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Ragos’ remains arrived at the Army Mortuary at the Libingan ng mga Bayani at 12:15 a.m. from St. Eldridge Funeral in Quezon City.
