Tokyo Olympics more likely to be canceled than moved or postponed—official

TOKYO — A senior
member of the International Olympic Committee said Tuesday that if it proves
too dangerous to hold the Olympics in Tokyo this summer because of the
coronavirus outbreak, organizers are more likely to cancel it altogether than
to postpone or move it.

Hong Kong finds coronavirus in pet dog samples, unclear if infected

HONG KONG – Hong Kong authorities said on Friday they quarantined a pet dog of a coronavirus patient after its nasal and oral samples tested “weak positive” for the virus, though they added they did not yet have evidence that it can be transmitted to pets.
The dog did not have any symptoms.
Magnitude 5.5 quake jolts Leyte, nearby areas

MANILA
– A potentially destructive magnitude 5.5 quake rattled Leyte province and
nearby areas, and triggered aftershocks before dawn on Monday, state
seismologists said.
The tremor struck around 5 a.m., with its epicenter located 8 kilometers
southeast of Leyte town, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
said.
At a depth of 9 kilometers, the tectonic quake was felt at a “strong” intensity 5 in Leyte, Kananga, Capoocan, and Pastrana towns in Leyte; and Tacloban and Ormoc cities, said Phivolcs.

Moon says Korea can overcome COVID-19 crisis, makes overtures to N. Korea, Japan

President Moon Jae-in called Sunday for
national unity in a fight against the new coronavirus in line with the spirit
of a historic independence movement a century earlier and suggested close
international cooperation against such an unconventional threat, including
partnerships with North Korea.
“The March 1 Independence Movement once again reminds us
that we can prevail over anything as long as we stand together,” he said
in a televised speech to commemorate the 1919 public uprising here against
Japan’s colonial rule. “All the people will come together and overcome
even today’s crisis without fail.”
