Medevac plane crash

A medical evacuation plane exploded in a ball of flames during the takeoff in the Philippine capital, Manila, on Sunday, killing all eight passengers and crew on board.

The Lion Air plane – bound from Manila to Haneda, Japan – burst into flames at the end of the runway at about 8pm (12:00 GMT), the capital’s main airport said.

Oil prices at 17-year lows as virus ravages world

Oil prices extended losses in Asian trade Monday and languished at 17-year lows, with the coronavirus crisis escalating around the world and no end in sight to a vicious price war.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate fell 5.3 percent to trade at $20 a barrel, while international benchmark Brent crude was off 6.5 percent at $23.

The falls came after the death toll from the pandemic surged past 30,000 at the weekend as cases in hard-hit Europe and the United States showed no sign of letting up.

Makati hospital berates Sen. Pimentel for violating quarantine protocols

Makati Medical Center on Wednesday castigated Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who tested positive for COVID-19, for visiting the hospital despite strict home quarantine protocols.

The hospital management in a statement denounced Pimentel — who accompanied his pregnant wife to the hospital — for unduly exposing health care workers to COVID-19. It said the former Senate President added to the “burden” of the medical staff responding to the coronavirus disease outbreak.

Satellite image shows Chinese military plane on Kagitingan Reef

A Chinese military plane landed on Kagitingan Reef (Fiery Cross Reef) in the West Philippine Sea on Saturday, March 28, a satellite image showed.

In a tweet on Sunday, March 29, the Israel-based satellite imaging service company ImageSat International said a Chinese military Y-8 transport aircraft landed on the artificial island, “probably bringing supplies.”

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, Jr. addressed an open letter to Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez on Sunday morning to complain that he could not get through a checkpoint to enter the province.
